Sony"s
Kraven the Hunter presented a new take on Spider-Man"s famous "Spidey Sense", which Tom Holland"s Spider-Man only addressed until very recently in the MCU. Peter Parker"s Spidey Sense appeared early in Spider-Man"s MCU timeline, specifically when Holland"s Spider-Man dodged an attack from Bucky Barnes in Captain America: Civil War. Later on, Aunt May teased Peter with a jab at his "Peter Tingle" in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the "Peter Tingle" made a notable appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when Spider-Man pinpointed Norman Osborn as the supposedly redeemed villain who would soon betray him.
Sony"s Spider-Man Universe has made significant changes to its main characters. For instance, Venom"s iconic white spider emblem never appeared in the Venom trilogy, Michael Morbius gained the ability to control bats in Morbius, and Cassandra Webb is a young woman in Madame Web"s version of 2003 NYC. Aaron Taylor-Johnson"s Sergei Kravinoff a.k.a. Kraven is no exception, as Sony"s Kraven the Hunter makes several changes to the titular anti-hero. The most evident change, of course, is that
Sony"s Kraven obtains superhuman abilities from a lion"s bite, compounded by Calypso"s elixir.
Kraven's Powers Are Way Better Than The Comics Kraven The Hunter Makes Sergei Kravinoff A Scarier Version Of Spider-Man Close In Sony"s Spider-Man Universe, a young Sergei Kravinoff is mauled by a legendary lion called "the Tsar". With help from Calypso"s elixir,
Kraven dies and comes back to life with superpowers such as super strength, super agility, super speed, enhanced senses, and a sixth sense. Aaron Taylor-Johnson"s Kraven is more agile than Quicksilver, as he"s able to dodge a barrage of gunshots effortlessly. Kraven"s agility also allows him to climb any structure extremely fast, and his super strength allows him to withstand powerful blows. While fighting, Aaron Taylor-Johnson"s Kraven looks just like an animal, or better, like a sinister version of Spider-Man.
Kraven"s abilities usually don"t look as imposing in the comics as they do in Sony"s Kraven the Hunter
In the comics, Kraven the Hunter also gains enhanced abilities from Calypso"s elixirs, but he doesn"t have any actual superpowers inherent to his body. Marvel Comics" Kraven is simply talented and disciplined enough to torment Spider-Man just as much as powerful supervillains like Electro, Sandman, Venom, and the Green Goblin. In the source material, Kraven relies on his marksmanship, strategy, and his weapons expertise. While he has gone toe-to-toe with characters such as Captain America, Black Panther, Beast, Wolverine, and Deadpool, Kraven"s abilities usually don"t look as imposing in the comics as they do in Sony"s Kraven the Hunter.
Kraven Has His Own Version Of Spidey Sense Kraven The Hunter Has A Sixth Sense Inspired By Lion Eyes
An additional ability that Sony"s Kraven the Hunter gives to its titular character is a kind of "lion vision" that Kraven can activate to see across long distances, see in the dark, and detect oncoming attacks.
Kraven"s eyes turn bright yellow and his senses seem sharper when he engages his sixth sense. At one point, Kraven instinctively activates his lion vision to see an enemy shooting a rocket at him, and he"s able to jump before it destroys the building. This scene suggests that Kraven"s lion vision works similarly to Spider-Man"s Spidey Sense or "Spider-Sense".
Related How Powerful Is Spider-Man Compared To Kraven The Hunter And Who Would Win In A Fight? Kraven the Hunter depicts one of Spider-Man’s greatest villains ever. But how would Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven have fared against Old Web-Head?
Posts 2 The Tsar lion that mauled Kraven in his childhood possesses similar yellow eyes. Therefore, it seems like Kraven inherited this lion"s mystical connection to nature, which may be why he can communicate with animals and command them to follow his will. While Kraven the Hunter doesn"t depict Kraven"s animal manipulation as a superpower as evident as Morbius", it does appear to be linked to Kraven"s "lion vision".
Honestly, Kraven's "Lion Vision" Is Better Than Spider-Man's Kraven The Hunter Can Engage His Lion Vision At Will
Custom image by Ross Tanenbaum Kraven the Hunter"s sixth sense has one major advantage over Spider-Man"s Spider-Sense.
Whereas Peter Parker"s Spider-Sense kicks in automatically and unexpectedly, Kraven can activate his sixth sense whenever he wants. Kraven also appears to have much more control over his ability, as he can zoom in and zoom out his vision at will, and he can direct his instinct toward the enemies he wants to attack and the areas he wants to inspect. Spider-Man usually needs some time to read his Spider-Sense, and sometimes he receives mixed signals about its meaning.
In the comics, Kraven uses a special “jungle scent” to neutralize Spider-Man"s Spider-Sense
Spider-Man"s Spider-Sense also seems to depend on his mood. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker wanted to trust Quentin Beck because he saw Mysterio as a mentor figure that could replace Iron Man. Peter"s trust caused his Spider-Sense to lay dormant and ignore all the clues that pointed to Mysterio"s villainous intentions. Likewise, Tobey Maguire"s Spider-Man was so focused on calming down Tom Holland"s Spidey in Spider-Man: No Way Home"s final battle that his Spider-Sense didn"t activate when Green Goblin stabbed him in the back.
Kraven the Hunter suggests Kraven"s lion vision doesn"t have this weakness due to its deliberate nature.
