A huge MCU trend is set to be broken with the August 2025 premiere of Marvel Animation"s
Eyes of Wakanda series. Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler announced a five-year deal between his production company, Proximity Media, and Disney in 2021, which encompassed several projects developing the world of Wakanda in the MCU. Eyes of Wakanda was officially announced in December 2023, with the animated, four-part series exploring the history of Wakanda by following the Hatut Zeraze, a group of formidable Wakandan warriors.
Eyes of Wakanda"s voice cast includes the likes of Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams and Patricia Belcher, among others, portraying members of the Hatut Zeraze.
This group has fought throughout history to protect Wakanda"s legacy, carrying out dangerous missions to retrieve stolen vibranium artifacts. As well as introducing the Hatut Zeraze, Eyes of Wakanda is also set to mark the return of the Iron Fist, exploring previously-unseen time periods in the MCU"s history, and doing something that no previous Marvel Animation series has been able to do.
Eyes Of Wakanda Takes Place In The MCU’s Primary Timeline Of Earth-616 Eyes Of Wakanda Will Premiere On August 6, 2025
Eyes of Wakanda will be the first Marvel Animation series to be set in the MCU"s primary continuity of Earth-616. This means the mythology of the Wakanda audiences already know and love will be explored in more detail, which could explain some important details about the Black Panther"s history, T"Challa"s own ancestry, Wakanda"s desire to remain hidden from the rest of the world and the capabilities of vibranium.
Being set in the MCU"s main timeline, Eyes of Wakanda will break a huge Marvel Animation trend, as other animated Marvel shows have explored various alternate universes.
MCU’s Other Animated Shows Have Explored The Multiverse Marvel Animation Has Produced Several Disney+ Shows In The Multiverse Saga Close So far,
all other Marvel Animation shows have explored various alternate realities across the MCU"s multiverse, rather than being set in the Sacred Timeline of Earth-616 itself. Most notably, each episode of What If...? sees Jeffrey Wright"s Watcher narrating stories from other realities, putting twists on the history of the MCU that audiences are familiar with. This has seen the debut of variants including Captain Carter, Strange Supreme, Infinity Ultron, Nova Corps Nebula and Wanda Merlin, who haven"t developed the history of the MCU, but inhabit their own universes and have little impact on Earth-616.

1 2025 will see the release of three new animated Marvel shows, including Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Marvel Zombies and Eyes of Wakanda. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will debut a variant of Tom Holland"s Peter Parker and explore his origin story as the titular wall-crawler, while Marvel Zombies will expand on the world introduced in What If...? season 1, episode 5, "What If... Zombies?!"
Eyes of Wakanda is the only Marvel Animation series actually set in the MCU"s main timeline, which could have a huge impact on the MCU itself.
What Eyes Of Wakanda Being Set On Earth-616 Means For The MCU Eyes Of Wakanda Will Develop The MCU's Black Panther
Eyes of Wakanda being set on Earth-616 makes it one of the MCU"s most exciting upcoming projects, and it will bridge the gap between 2022"s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and its as-yet-unannounced sequel, Black Panther 3. The Black Panther franchise has been one of the MCU"s most popular and successful since it began with the debut of the late Chadwick Boseman"s T"Challa in 2016"s Captain America: Civil War.
Boseman"s sudden passing was a huge tragedy for the MCU, but it"s great to see the Black Panther franchise continuing his legacy in the best way possible.

Eyes of Wakanda"s storyline could also have a huge impact on the MCU.
Introducing the Hatut Zeraze will expand the history of Wakanda in some brilliant ways, and debut some formidable characters into the MCU"s main timeline. Besides this, Eyes of Wakanda will also bring the Iron Fist back to the MCU, though this is unlikely to be Finn Jones" Danny Rand from Netflix"s Iron Fist series, given the animated show"s historical setting. The animation style of
Eyes of Wakanda also breaks tradition for the MCU, as this will be the first time animation and live-action have officially crossed over.
