While Darth Vader may be the most important Jedi corrupted to the dark side amid Order 66 and the Fall of the Jedi Order, several more Star Wars characters joined the dark side during this period. Orchestrated for years behind the scenes by Chancellor Palpatine - secretly Darth Sidious- Order 66 was the culmination of his plans to eradicate the Jedi Order and transform the Republic into his own Galactic Empire. There were Jedi who survived this massive purge, though not all of them continued to serve the light side of the Force.
Taking advantage of the secret inhibitor chips embedded within every trooper of the Republic's clone army, Palpatine enacted Order 66. This protocol identified all Jedi as traitors to be eradicated on sight. This resulted in a galaxy-wide slaughter that killed the vast majority of Jedi who were out fighting in the Clone Wars. Meanwhile, Palpatine's new Sith apprentice and a contingent of troops were sent to kill those still within the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
