Nicolas Cage Addresses Marvel And Sony's Secrecy Around His Spider-Man Spinoff: "I'm Sorry For This Answer"

Nicolas Cage addresses what is going on with his Spider-Noir TV show as he is set to return to the Marvel world. Sony"s Spider-Man Universe may be done on the big screen, but Sony is continuing the Spider-Verse and bringing it to the small screen, as a live-action series based on Spider-Man Noir is set to debut on Prime Video and MGM+. After having voiced the character in the animated Spider-Verse franchise, Cage is now getting his chance to portray him in live-action, but very little has been shared about Spider-Noir throughout 2025.
In an interview with ScreenRant"s Grant Hermanns for Cage"s movie, The Surfer, the star was asked if he could share anything about Spider-Noir, whether it be about his new take on the character or how it may differ from his iteration in the Spider-Verse movies. But like most Marvel projects, Cage is under a certain level of restriction about what he can actually say about the Spider-Noir TV show, as he shared the following:
They have, and I"m sorry for this answer [chuckles], but the studio has literally put like a five-inch acrylic cone of silence glass around me, and they won"t let me say a word about it, which is really weird. But that"s where they"re at, they"re keeping it so close to the vest.
What Nicolas Cage's Comments Mean For The Spider-Man Noir Show Close Even though it may be frustrating that very little is known about Spider-Noir, Cage"s comments about Sony"s strategy make a lot of sense. To begin with, Sony is attempting to get something of a fresh start with live-action Spider-Man properties that are not related to their deal with Marvel Studios. Following the extremely mixed reactions to Sony"s Spider-Man Universe, it is not shocking that the studio wants to take a few steps back as they get Spider-Noir underway. That also means a different marketing strategy, especially as they are now tackling Spider-Man on TV.
It"s also crucial to remember that at the time of this story"s publication, Spider-Noir doesn"t have a premiere date, as it has not been confirmed yet if it will even launch in 2025. If the Marvel show isn"t released until 2026, it justifies why Cage and other Spider-Noir cast members can"t talk about the show just yet. With Spider-Noir in post-production, Sony is perhaps also waiting to reveal more about the series once they have footage that can be marketed.
Our Take On Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir Show Comments Custom Image by Kai Young While Cage is having to remain tight-lipped for now, the wait will be more than worth it given his involvement with Spider-Noir. Whatever they have in store for the Spider-Noir TV show will ideally be things that Marvel audiences don"t expect, especially as Sony explores Spider-Man through live-action TV. Hopefully, Sony will get closer to finally being able to start their Spider-Noir marketing sooner rather than later, as 2025 gets ready to enter summer.
The Surfer is now playing in theaters.
